Action	A bet or wager on an event
Agent	A go-between of the player and the bookmaker.
ATS	Short for Against The Spread.
Back Door	When a team comes back to cover the spread when it seemed unlikely
Bad Beat	When you lsoe a wager that you thought you had won
Bank Roll	Your wagreing budget
Beard	A person who places bets for another person
Bet	A wager
Bookie	A shortened term for the Bookmaker. Also known as the House
Chalk	A term used to describe a point spread favorite
Choke Job	Losing a wager you thought you had won
Cover	Winning a point spread wager
Dime	Betting lingo for $1000
Dip	Another term for a Teaser wager
Dog	Short for a point spread Underdog
Dollar	Betting lingo for $100
Even Money	A wager where you win your stake and no commission is taken
Figure	How much you are owed or owe the book maker
Handicapper	A person who offers betting advice for fee
Hedge	Placing a wager on the opposite side of a previous wager to prevent a loss
Juice	The commission paid to the book maker on a losing bet
Limit	The minimum or maximum wager a book maker will accept
Lock	A term used for a wager that seemingly can’t lose
Middle	Placing wagers on opposite sides of the same game to ensure a profit regardless of outcome. Also know as a scalp
Nickel	Betting lingo for $500
Off The Board	A contest in which there is no betting line available
Parlay	A single wager in which two are more teams are bet. In order for the wager to win, all the teams need to cover their point spreads
Past Post	Placing a wager after an event has already begun
Point Spread	The betting lines a book maker assigns to an event
Push	Neither a win or a loss. A tie
Runner	A person who places bets for another person
Scalp	Placing wagers on opposite sides of the same game to ensure a profit regardless of outcome. Also know as a middle
Sharp	A successful or professional bettor
Square	An amateur bettor
Steam	When large sums are wagered on a specific bet in a short period of time
Teaser	A single wager on multiple teams where you are given "points" to adjust the odds of an event based on the number of teams involved
Tout	Another term for Handicapper
Wager	Another term for a Bet
Wise Guy	Another term for a Sharp or professional bettor
