Senators clipped in OT

Ottawa lost 4-3 at home in overtime Sunday night against New Jersey to drop to 16-18-5 on the season. After trailing 1-0 through one period, the Senators tied it up on a Nick Paul goal with 11:21 to play in the second period with assists from Anthony Duclair and Cody Goloubef. Ottawa grabbed a 2-1 advantage a little under five minutes later as Artem Anisimov scored off assists by Andreas Englund and Colin White. The Devils scored twice the rest of the period to take a 3-2 lead. The Senators evened it at 3-3 with 4:58 to play in the third period via a Thomas Chabot goal off an assist from Jean-Gabriel Pageau. New Jersey scored the game-winner 54 seconds into the extra session. Craig Anderson took the loss as he gave up four goals on 34 shots.

Penguins outlast Predators

Pittsburgh secured a 6-4 home win over Nashville Saturday night to move to 23-11-4 on the season. Bryan Rust opened the scoring 32 seconds in for the Penguins off assists from Jake Guentzel and Evgeny Malkin. Dominik Kahun made it 2-0 33 seconds later with assists courtesy of Alex Galchenyuk and Juuso Riikola. Kris Letang made it 3-0 on the power play with 10:56 left in the first on assists from Malkin and Rust. The Predators got one back in the second period, but Pittsburgh answered on a Galchenyuk power play goal at the 11:58 mark on assists from John Marino and Riikola. Nashville got two goals back in the second to draw within 4-3 through 40 minutes, while it proceeded to tie the score at 4-4 with 11:04 to play in the third period. Guentzel put the Penguins ahead for good on the power play with 1:03 remaining on assists from Malkin and Rust. Rust added an unassisted empty-net goal with 38 seconds left to close it out. Matt Murray secured the win between the pipes as he stopped 44 shots on 48 attempts.

NHL Betting Trends

The Senators are 26-53 in their last 79 games as an underdog. Ottawa is 5-11 in its last 16 games overall.

The Penguins are 4-0 in their last four games as a favorite. Pittsburgh is 6-1 in its last seven games overall.

The Penguins are clicking on all cylinders offensively and are the far superior team in this matchup, plus they are at home. Ottawa will start Marcus Hogberg between the pipes and he has a save percentage only a little north of .900. I'm taking the puckline here as I expect the Penguins to put up another big output while also limiting what the Senators are able to do.
