Kirill Kaprizov scored a goal and assisted on another in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Kaprizov was in a helpful mood early, working the assist to Mats Zuccarello on a power-play goal midway through the first period. He came through in more emphatic style seven-plus minutes into the third period, when he scored a goal of his own against Frederik Anderson. That third-period goal pushed the Wild to a relatively comfortable 3-0 advantage (that's a comfortable lead for everyone except the New Jersey Devils these days). On the whole this season, Kaprizov has notched a stellar 39 goals and 85 points across 66 games played. Saturday marked Kaprizov's sixth consecutive contest with a goal scored.

Vitek Vanecek was pulled after giving up five goals on 23 shots in Monday’s 6-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. With the Capitals down 5-1 after two periods, they decided a change in net might spark the team but it did none of the sort. It’s a night to forget for Vanecek and it will be interesting to see who the Caps turn to with their next contest coming in on Sunday when they face the Wild. Vanecek’s record falls to 17-10-5 with a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage.
