LSU Tigers Game Notes

LSU freshman QB Max Johnson completed 14-of-24 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-42 upset of Florida on Saturday. Johnson (6'5/219) might have struggled last week against Kentucky but he clearly has Florida figured out, as the second-year signal caller has now beaten the Gators as an underdog both times he has faced them. He hooked up with Jaray Jenkins on all three of his touchdowns, with the most consequential being a fourth-and-goal play on the one-yard line where Johnson perfectly executed a misdirection play and hitting a motioning Jenkins for the game winning score late in the fourth quarter. Though his passing totals were hardly eye-popping, Johnson avoided any costly turnovers and managed the game effectively while RB Tyrion Davis-Price set the school single-game rushing record. The Tigers face-off against Mississippi next Saturday.

Ole Miss Rebels Game Notes

Mississippi redshirt junior QB Matt Corral's status is up in the air this Saturday against LSU. Head coach Lane Kiffin went on The Paul Finebaum Show Friday to address Corral's (6'1/205) situation. He didn't get into specifics about the injury or when a decision could be made about whether or not he plays. Corrall is favored to win the Heisman trophy this season and will be a high prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft. If Corral is out, this would not be an easy win for Mississippi. LSU rebound after a two-game losing streak to beat No. 20 Florida. If Corral is unable to go, true freshman Luke Altmyer will get the start.
